WHO
Designed for those with an interest in Peatlands, this course is an ideal starting point for those who wish to learn more about Irish archaeology in these extraordinary environs.
HOW
Fieldwork will be the main focus of these courses, with classroom based lectures included in Option 1.
WHAT
The Introduction to Peatland Archaeology will provide students with the skills to locate, identify, record and excavate archaeological structures in the Peatland environment, and to gain an insight into human interaction, within marginal landscapes.
RESOURCES
Teams will be led by experienced archaeologists with specialist knowledge and practical experience of Peatland archaeology.

WHERE
Course Option 1 will be located in Tullamore, Co. Offaly.
Course Option 2 will be located in Thurles, Co. Tipperary.
CREDIT
University accreditation is pending.
COST
Option 1 €1,750 includes self-catering accommodation and tuition.
Option 2 €2,200 includes self-catering accommodation and tuition.
WHEN
Option 1 runs from 22nd of June - 3rd of July 2009.
Option 2 runs from 6th of July – 31st of July 2009.
ACCOMMODATION
Self-catering accommodation will be provided at the different locations.

Is a two week course which is classroom-based with an element of fieldwork. During this course the students will learn the techniques particular to surveying
and excavating Peatland archaeology. |

Is a four week field-based course, following on from Option 1, where students will get hands-on experience using the techniques learned in the previous two weeks. This site work includes excavation, detailed recording and sampling, wood species identification, and worked wood recording. |
